Update on New and Existing Nondiscrimination Requirements for Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists in Healthcare Settings
September 12, 2016
6:00 p.m.–7:30 p.m. ET

New regulations from the Office for Civil Rights will require audiologists and speech-language pathologists to review and update their existing policies to ensure compliance with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Nondiscrimination final rule that went into effect July 18, 2016. As the civil rights provision of the ACA, Section 1557 expands on existing policies that prohibit discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability. Hospitals, clinics, speech therapy programs, medical practices, and individual audiologists and speech-language pathologists that receive federal funds including Medicaid or Medicare (except Part B) must comply with the rule. The following panelists will answer questions:

  • Daneen Grooms, MHSA, ASHA Director, Health Reform Analysis and Advocacy, Healthcare Economics and Advocacy Team
  • Andrea "Deedee" Moxley, MA, CCC-SLP, ASHA Associate Director, Multicultural Resources

This free event is open to all ASHA members (it is not offered for CEUs).
