Introduction
Are you referred patients who complain of coughing and choking but don’t appear to have an oropharyngeal dysphagia?  Has your patient been cleared for a diet with no indication of aspiration however continues to exhibit dysphagia symptoms? Often the Speech Pathologist is the first person to assess dysphagia regardless of the origin. Given this, it is essential that we are able to identify and understand esophageal dysphagia, the impact on po intake and when further assessment is warranted. This four hour course will explore the role of the esophagus in swallowing, its related disorders and the impact of esophageal dysphagia.  Cases will be presented for discussion and review.

Learner Outcomes
1. Understand the anatomy and physiology of the esophagus.
2. Understand the effect of extrinsic factors on the esophagus.
3. Identify pathological esophageal disorders.
4. Understand the effect of esophageal disorders on swallow function.
