Telehealth/Telepractice Resources

The Federal Public Health Emergency ended on May 11, 2023. Nonetheless telehealth remains largely available to patients in Massachusetts and Medicare has extended our ability to continue providing services via telehealth until the end of 2024. Below are some resources to help you understand how to navigate current requirements.

Board of Registration for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology:

Board Policies and Guidelines: Providing Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Services by Electronic Means (scroll down to see the text of the policy)

Key Points:

  • The scope, nature, and quality of service must be equivalent to in-person service
  • 10 hours of training in provision of telepractice is required prior to engaging in telepractice (details in text of regulation)
  • Telehealth evaluation is allowed, however must assess appropriateness in terms of cognition, technology available, and ability to participate with or without a facilitator
  • The patient has a right to refuse to be treated via telehealth
  • Must be HIPAA and FERPA compliant
